Police officers went to a house in the town around 3:30 p.m. for the disturbance call. “Shots were fired almost an hour later and police gave them radios and they were beaten,” Capello said in a brief news conference. All three police officers were taken to hospitals. One of them was pronounced dead. A second was critical but stable, and a third was stable, Capello said. “This is an extremely difficult time for everyone,” Capello said. The suspect, a 34-year-old Lebanese man, was killed by gunfire, Lebanese Police Chief Todd Brainer said. “As you can imagine, it is clearly a traumatic event,” Breiner said. “Our children are strong, but we are human and we have families.” A 17-year-old Lebanese man, Angelo Gonzalez, was working at a pizzeria under fire when he said he saw “a car after another police officer flying into the street”. “Then we heard something and we were not sure what it was and the road was filled with police and an ambulance in 15 minutes,” Gonzalez said in a text message. The name of the killed officer is hidden in anticipation of the notification of the members of the extended family. Police did not provide further details.
