Greg Berhalter makes four changes to the USMNT’s 0-0 draw in Mexico on Thursday, taking on defender Shaq Moore, midfielder Luca de la Torre and strikers Paul Arriola and Jesús Ferreira. Luca de la Torre returns to the starting line-up after winning his first start for the National team in the 3-0 victory over Honduras on February 2 in St. Petersburg. Paul, Minn. Tyler Adams and Antonee Robinson will win their 12th WCQ race tonight, drawing together to give the team a lead during the 2022 qualifying round.
Christian Pulisic is the leader of the USMNT for the eighth time tonight. The team is 5-1-1 when Pulisic wears the armband.
Pulicic is one of four players to score at Orlando’s Exploria Stadium, scoring the first goal in a 4-0 WCQ victory over Panama on October 6, 2017.
The other three scorers came from the US friendly 7-0 win over Trinidad and Tobago on January 31, 2021. Jesus Ferreira beat Man of the Match that night, scoring two goals and three assists. Paul Arriola scored two goals and one assist, while Miles Robinson also scored his first international goal.
Substitute defender Aaron Long also scored at Exploria Stadium, beating the United States 4-1 against Canada during the Concacaf Nations League on November 15, 2019.
Goalkeeper Zack Steffen won his 10th clean sheet of his career on Thursday in Mexico City. He sits one behind teammate Matt Turner and Arnie Mausser for sixth place on the USMNT shutout list.
Initials Tyler Adams, Miles Robinson and Zack Steffen and substitute Jordan Pefok are watching closely. If one of them receives a yellow card tonight, he will serve a penalty during a match on Wednesday’s qualifier in Costa Rica.
