The 29-year-old, who is also Burnie, disappeared on May 14, 2021, when data from his transit pass show that he boarded bus 340 outside SkyTrain 22nd Street in New Westminster. This is the route he would normally take to visit his parents – but none of Grebel’s loved ones have seen him since, despite numerous false alarms. “There have been countless sightings,” Grebel’s sister, Eti Surak, said on Friday, explaining that people often believe they have found her brother, but instead have found someone who looks like him. “And, on the one hand, it ‘s really discouraging. How could so many views – over a hundred – not one of them? On the other hand, it’ s encouraging that my brother is still in people ‘s minds and people are looking and hopeful. “ The family initially offered $ 10,000 to help find Grebel and then $ 20,000. This week, as they become more and more desperate for potential customers, they have increased the reward once again. “If the reward is to get someone to promote the information, we feel it is our responsibility to do so,” Shurack said. The family has previously expressed frustration with the perceived lack of urgency among Surrey’s RCMP investigating Grempel’s disappearance, which authorities have denied. The RCMP said they followed every available guide and checked homeless shelters for possible occurrences. The family ended up searching for personal surveillance videos along the route of bus 340 and gathering information about Grebel’s Google Map account and banking activity. When they first announced their search for the missing man, the Surrey RCMP said that a warrant had been issued for Grebel to “arrest and return him to the hospital”. Given Grebel’s mental health problems, the family said the original hypothesis from the researchers was that he may have committed suicide – a theory his loved ones never accepted. “Nothing stands out for that day,” Shurack said. “My mother and I talk about that day all the time and try to figure out, like, where can we look for more details? What have we lost since that day? And there is not a single difference.” Grebel is described as a six-foot-tall white man with brown eyes and curly brown hair. She was last seen wearing a white hooded jacket, red sweatshirt and black Nike shoes. The family asked anyone with information about Grebel’s disappearance to contact them immediately at 778-838-5095. With files from Angela Jung of CTV News Vancouver
