Dave Altavila The onslaught of high-powered Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 flagship phones continues today, with smartphone lover OnePlus officially launching in the US with the OnePlus 10 Pro. The Chinese phone maker previously announced the device for Asian markets at CES in January this year, but is now starting its US debut. This new premium Android device is the culmination of a set of consistently evolving enhancements and refined features, including a Hasselblad-tuned second-generation camera system that truly measures vibrancy and color accuracy. But before we dive into the peeping pixel, let’s explore the hardware configuration, industrial design and software package of the OnePlus 10 Pro.
OnePlus 10 pro: An elegant, well-designed beauty with a killer screen
What you see above is the OnePlus 10 Pro with the Volcanic Black finish, which is matte frozen in Gorilla Glass 5 on the back. What is great about this finish is that it not only feels soft and slightly less non-slip on the hand, but also completely resists fingerprints and smudges. OnePlus 10 Pro rear right side view with screen lock / power button and silent / vibration … [+] Slider Alert switch Dave Altavila In fact, OnePlus’s own black, elastic case for the device collects more dirt, almost tempting you to live on the edge and shake this phone without a case. Indeed, the back finish of this phone is so nice, and it also comes in sparkling green Emerald Forest, if that’s more your kind of jam. The rest of the design is a case made entirely of metal, glass and ceramic that OnePlus claims to be made to withstand. The rear camera unit of this phone is not only elegantly styled and low profile, but it is also covered with ceramic that the OnePlus notes provide 30% more scratch resistance. Finally, above you can see the Alert Slider button coming back here again, a thought-provoking feature that I personally find very useful, allowing you to drop the phone into Silent, Vibrate or Ring modes with ease. Another great feature that returns for the second time is the excellent AMOLED LTPO (Low Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide) display technology that delivers a variable refresh rate from 1 Hz to 120 Hz. and it is a beauty. OnePlus 10 Pro 6.7 inch Fluid AMOLED screen 120 Hz Dave Altavila OnePlus consistently delivers superb display technology to its flagship devices for generations now, and the 10 Pro takes things to the next level with Dual Color Calibration at 100 and 500 nits (maximum 1300 nits). This means that it is covered for better color accuracy in a variety of lighting conditions and I have to agree that the setting here is very nice. You get the usual deep contrast and intense saturation of AMOLED here, but from the start the color balance and precision look perfect and need no adjustment. However, there are various tools and settings to modify things, if you want to turn on, for example, low light support in Eye Comfort or Bright HDR Video. Nevertheless, this almost frameless QHD + 6.7-inch screen (3216×1440 resolution) is simply fantastic and, paired with Gorilla Glass Victus, is definitely a distinctive feature of the device. It is capable of HDR 10+ and is as nice as Samsung’s LTPO technology in the Galaxy S22 series, which makes sense, as this panel is also made by Samsung. The design and appearance here is also the reason why this phone is so handy in size. By comparison, Google’s 6.7-inch Pixel 6 Pro is almost huge and has a much sharper waterfall curve on its screen. In short, OnePlus really nailed the graphics here.
The OnePlus 10 Pro keeps the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Cool and Performant
Under the hood of the OnePlus 10 Pro is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Mobile Platform SoC (System On Chip), along with 8 GB of LPDDR5 memory and 128 GB of UFS 3.1 Flash storage. I would like to see OnePlus offer a 256 GB option in the US as well, but obviously this is not on the cards. Nevertheless, OnePlus went the extra mile with the 10 Pro cooling solution, resulting in better consistent performance over larger, extended workloads. OnePlus notes that the 10 Pro’s cooling system is the largest of all its devices to date and features a custom copper and carbon-carbon vapor chamber on both sides of the motherboard, as well as a new graphene cooling film. The result is that Qualcomm’s Snadpragon 8 Gen 1, with the new most powerful AI engine and significantly faster Adreno GPU (Graphics Editing Unit), performs well on this phone and retains better over time than its Galaxy S22 series. Samsung. OnePlus 10 Pro 3DMark Wild Life Unlimited Benchmark Results HotHardware.com In the graph above, the OnePlus 10 Pro is exactly the same as other recently powered devices with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. You will also note that it is also significantly faster than the Pixel 6 Pro, at least in gaming workloads. In terms of overall CPU performance, the scope of current-generation devices here will fit in much better, although Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon excels at workloads with artificial intelligence, such as photo computing and gaming. That said, again, the thermal solution of the OnePlus 10 Pro also seems to be a cut above … 3DMark Wild Life Stress Test Results The Here, the 3DMark Wildlife Stress Test shows that the OnePlus 10 Pro maintains approximately 65 percent of its performance in a continuous 20-minute loop of benchmark. It also maintained this performance up to the point of 8 minutes and bleeding quite gracefully, unlike the Galaxy S22 which reduced its performance by 50% and did it faster, starting at 3 minutes. In addition, for gamers, the OnePlus 10 Pro also has features called GPA Frame Stabilizer and O-Sync. Frame Stabilizer works to track frame rates, as well as CPU and GPU resources, so that if frame rates drop, it does so gracefully over time, instead of dramatically in an annoying way for the user. . It seems to work quite well in reality, as shown in the diagram above. O-Sync, as its name suggests, synchronizes the frame output of the Snapdragon chip with the 10 Pro’s variable refresh rate display for a smoother, smoother, tear-free experience, similar to how gaming technology works PC with variable refresh rate. Side note, if you want the full data reporting glove, go to HotHardware for a review of Myriam Joire who has plenty of versions of the OnePlus 10 Pro from all angles. OnePlus 10 Pro Sub-6 5G speed test results Ookla Speedtest In terms of speed and 5G connectivity, the OnePlus 10 Pro is up to the task, especially as Sub-6 network speeds improve, as you can see on Google Fi here, which is connected to the T-Mobile network in our area. However, another omission that may be more of a problem for some is the lack of 5G mmWave support. Although Qualcomm’s chipset definitely supports connectivity and multi-gigabit mmWave speeds, OnePlus has chosen to save money, so the 10 Pro only supports Sub-6 5G connectivity on T-Mobile and Verizon. Also, if you are at AT&T, the OnePlus 10 Pro will unfortunately only connect via 4G LTE, as it is not currently 5G certified with this provider.
OnePlus 10 Pro Camera Performance: In a word, great
OnePlus 10 Pro Triple Camera Array with LED Ring Light Dave Altavila In terms of camera performance, as my title suggests, the OnePlus 10 Pro is a real treat. There are a lot of features going on here that require detail in the words of a novel, so I’ll save you, but the dual-camera range offers real results, combined with even more refined Hasselblad color coordination. The main camera is a 48MP (megapixel) camera with f / 1.8 aperture with OIS and EIS (optical and electronic image stabilization) and is powered by the excellent Sony IMX789 sensor. The Ultra-Wide shooter is a Samsung ISOCell JN1 camera with a 50MP f / 2, .2 aperture with an extremely wide field of view of 150 degrees. Finally, there is an exclusive 8MP f / 2.4 Telephoto camera with OIS, thankfully, and a 32MP fixed focus selfie camera. Overall, there is a lot of solid material here that it really offers, combined with well-optimized software and excellent color calibration. OnePlus 10 pro camera application with zoom settings OnePlus The OnePlus camera app is clean and intuitive, like the rest of OnePlus’s OxygenOS 12, which has very light skin compared to Android 12 and some interesting features. For example, there is the Medium Dark Mode setting that you may want to control and the OnePlus Shelf, a graphical data collection in a single box that gives you quick access to the weather, a step counter, data storage and usage, a quick download notes, as well as other application quick access features. But enough chatter? Especially in the Portrait of Les Paul guitar, with the rich antique golden sunshine and the flakes of maple wood, the colors are true and vivid. The same can be said for the provocative Night Mode shot of the horse-drawn wagon-tank, with all the shades of red tank, outdated wagon wheels and faded wood that are so well captured. Of…
