Gilbert wrote and directed the original game, The Secret of Monkey Island. He was the director, developer and designer of the sequel to Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge. He left Lucasfilm Games shortly after the release of the latter, but was credited with the 2009 Tales of Monkey Island. his colleague, Monkey Island veteran Dave Grossman. Return to Monkey Island is under development at Gilbert’s Terrible Toybox. The studio is working with Devolver Digital and Lucasfilm Games for the latest entry. According to the description of a teaser video published by Devolver, it is a “long-awaited sequel” of the first two games. The excerpt also notes that Michael Land, Peter McConnell and Clint Bajakian – who have previously worked on the series – handle the music, while Dominic Armato reprises his role as Guybrush Threepwood. So, it would definitely sound like a good Monkey Island game. Gilbert tried for years to get the rights to Monkey Island (and the Maniac Mansion) from Disney’s Lucasfilm Games to no avail. However, it is wonderful to see him and so many other Monkey Island veterans return to the series. This has just reached the top of my list of most anticipated games in 2022.
