While current maps of the human genome provide researchers with a wealth of information, many argue that they do not adequately capture the vast diversity of humanity. Now, a team is trying to create a more complete and representative map showing the varieties of the sequence that can be found in different populations. However, given the failures of other projects, some geneticists focusing on the needs of indigenous communities are reluctant to take the initiative.
