In a statement issued in the early hours of this morning, Devon and Cornwall police confirmed that the occupants of one of the vehicles, a Citroen Picasso, had been found dead on the spot. The incident, near Zelah, closed the A30 between Carland Cross and Chiverton Cross. Police did not initially specify the number of victims, but a force case director has since confirmed that two people, a man and a woman, were killed. Their closest relatives have been informed. The full police statement, issued shortly before 04:00 on Tuesday morning, stated: “At 18:25 on Monday, March 28, 2022, there was a collision of four vehicles in which a Citroen Picasso, a Skoda Octavia, a large freight vehicle were involved. and a Vauxhall Zafira. The collision occurred at the A30 between Carland Cross and Chiverton Cross in the Zelah area of Cornwall. All other parties involved in the conflict were slightly injured. “Local officers as well as officers of the Street Alliance Police Team were present at the scene. As soon as a forensic examination was carried out, the road was reopened. “Anyone who has noticed or has any information about the collision – especially any video from a dashboard camera – please contact the Devon and Cornwall Police at 101 at 0605, March 28, 2022.” The road remained closed overnight and is expected to remain closed for most of the morning as police conduct an investigation at the scene. According to the National Road: “The road remains closed to allow for a conflict investigation, which according to the Devon and Cornwall police is likely to continue until the morning peak period of the trip. “The Highways have resources to help manage traffic. The resources are also on stage to prepare for the completion of the road clearing of any debris to ensure the safe opening of the road. “If this closure affects your scheduled route, allow extra travel time. Plan ahead, you may want to change the route or even delay your trip.” Road and traffic monitoring site Inrix also reports that there is currently congestion along the A30 via Goonhavern and Coldharbour as traffic is diverted. They report that the road is closed in both directions and there is slow traffic due to accident investigation works from the A39 Carland Cross to A390 Chiverton Cross roundabout.
