There are four additional active cases in the non-Algoma area that are temporarily in the area. This total was reduced by one from Tuesday’s update. The number of confirmed cases in the area increased by 57 to a total of 4,437 in 2022 and 6,641 since the beginning of the pandemic. The number of resolved cases is 6,193. Hospital numbers were not updated at the time of writing. The number of patients treated in the Algoma area with COVID-19 increased by two on Tuesday, while the number of ICU patients with confirmed COVID-19 increased by one on Tuesday. Updated hospital numbers will be added to this story if they become available. Note: As of December 31, 2021, the province has limited PCR testing for COVID-19 to higher-risk populations. In addition, some people with a mild or asymptomatic infection may not seek tests. Algoma Public Health states that the confirmed case numbers underestimate the actual number of people with COVID-19 in the Algoma area.
