The AHS Board of Directors announced Yiu as interim President and CEO in 2016 before extending its role for another two years, from June 2, 2021. CTV News confirmed that Yiu was fired. “I have had the privilege of leading Alberta Health Services for the past six years or so,” said Dr. Son in a press release on Monday. “I would like to thank all the staff, doctors and volunteers for their consistent care of the Albertans and their ability to put patients and their families first, especially as we have spent the last two years of the pandemic.” Yiu said she took the role as an opportunity to “further consolidate” culture, teamwork and excellence within the organization. “I thought we could develop better relationships with our patients and families and with the communities of Alberta. I’m so proud and grateful to all the members of the AHS team as well as to our advisory groups and boards and all the institutions support the AHS. “ The AHS Board of Directors is currently in the process of seeking a temporary Chairman and CEO. A search committee was set up several months ago and AHS says the team has already started a search process. The board has asked Mauro Chies, vice president of Cancer Care Alberta and Clinical Support Services, to serve as interim CEO on a temporary basis. Board chairman Gregory Turnbull says they expect a “smooth transition.” “We are very grateful for the tireless leadership of Dr. “Yiu in the worst days of the pandemic and we thank her for her dedicated service and commitment for years to the AHS and the Albertans,” Turnbull said.
