Why wait?
“They have this choice they can make,” Christman said. “They can either decide to continue to fight it in a very negative way or say that employees have identified problems in the workforce and let’s listen to them.” Starbucks bartenders at various locations voted to form unions, and in late March, Google Fiber contractors in Kansas City, Missouri, backed a union effort, becoming the first Alphabet workers’ union. This could be a moment for the company to play well and avoid a protracted battle, said Tom Kochan, a professor at the Sloan School of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
