A temporary non-return traffic system has been put into operation due to maintenance work being carried out on the bridge which has caused serious disruption. Access to the bridge remains congested in both the North and South Coast today. Read more: Drivers warn of delays at Humber Bridge this weekend In a statement posted on social media, a Humber Bridge spokesman said: “To inform you, we will be carrying out substantial maintenance on the bridge surface from 8pm on Friday until 3am on Monday. “During this period, a contraflow will operate to protect the public and the workforce and the TAG lane will also be closed.” Motorists have shared their anger on social media. One woman said: “It took me two hours to do what is usually a 40 minute drive to visit my mom and I really do not want to queue for about an hour and a half to get home later.
