It is understood the Ajax board are discussing Antony’s potential fee, but the expectation is they will demand €100m (£84.8m) for the Brazilian winger. The Athletic reported on Thursday that United had rekindled their interest in Antony but had seen an €80m (£67.6m) bid rejected on Wednesday. United are also considering a move for PSV Eindhoven’s Cody Gakpo as an alternative to a deal for Anthony. It is believed, however, that PSV are waiting for the conclusion of their Champions League play-off with Rangers on Wednesday before making any decisions on his future. The first leg last week ended 2-2 at Ibrox, with the winner of the tie advancing to this season’s group stage. It was reported earlier this year that while Gakpo, 23, had agreed to extend his current contract by a year until 2026, a deal was put in place to ensure that if suitable offers came in this summer, PSV would cooperate. Erik ten Hag’s side lost their opening game at home to Brighton & Hove Albion and were beaten 4-0 at Brentford last Sunday. However, Casemiro will not arrive in time for United’s home game against Liverpool on Monday. The Brazilian midfielder had problems with his visa.
