The English champions’ defense returns to the show after a 137-game victory in South Africa, also at Christchurch, in Thursday’s semifinal.
England have recovered from losing their first three games in the tournament and now have a five-game winning streak, having also beaten India, New Zealand, Pakistan and Bangladesh in the group stages.
But they will face an Australian team that will win all eight of its matches in this World Cup and which has won 37 of its last 38 ODIs.

Meg Lanning’s team beat England in the three Women’s Ashes ODI earlier this year and then again at the opening weekend of the World Cup.
“It’s a great opportunity and I feel we have nothing to lose,” said Shrubsole – whose two early goals reduced South Africa to 8-2 in the semifinals – he said of Australia.
The final of the World Cup “the absolute top”
“We have to enjoy it. I know it sounds so cliché, but all we do is have the opportunity to play in the World Cup finals. It is the ultimate highlight.
“What you do not want to do is let that day go by because you are so nervous. If you are not enjoying the World Cup final, then you are not going to enjoy anything else.
“I probably would not have thought of that [we’d be here] when we were busy losing three in the bounce at the beginning of the tournament.
Shrubsole celebrates after knocking out Laura Wolvaardt – the top scorer in the World Cup – for a duck in Thursday’s semifinal
“We have to be at our best again. We must have a similar performance [against South Africa] but it is a game individually and anything can happen. I can not wait.
“We ran quite close at times during the Ashes and we know that if we play our best cricket, we will be there or around.
“Making such an appearance in the semifinals is absolutely what you want, so we are full of confidence for Sunday and we are really looking forward to it.
“I think at the beginning of the tournament we were pretty mediocre – we lost a lot of catches and did not bowling and hit as we wanted.
“We always say that it has nothing to do with how you start, but how you will finish and it seems that we are getting in shape at the right time.”

Hussain: England can beat Australia – but they have to be at their best
Sky Sports Nasser Hussain: “This was by far England’s best performance in the tournament, with the bat, on the pitch and with the ball. This will give them a very good position for Australia. “It is one thing to make a perfect performance against Pakistan before a few games at this stadium, but it is another to do it against a South African team that has already won this tournament and is playing well.
Obviously we know the conditions, but it’s a new stadium for the final, so I do not think it will make much of a difference, to be honest with you.
Anya Shrubsole in the Christchurch World Cup final “England are gaining momentum at the right time, they are improving with every game, but they should be at their best in the final. “Australia is so much above everyone in world cricket at the moment. It is so athletic, so dynamic, all its players are in shape and have that depth. “If England play like they did with South Africa at Christchurch, where Australia have not played in the tournament and England have fond memories, they can certainly win.” Watch the Women’s World Cup final between England and Australia live on Sky Sports World Cup Cricket from 01:00 on Sunday.
