Although tests are no longer required for fully vaccinated travelers (or for persons under 4 years of age), proof of vaccination is still required for all air travel, trains and cruise ships arriving within or within the country. In the Halton area, COVID-19 hospitalizations have more than tripled in the past week, including seven new patients at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. This total is higher than zero patients less than two weeks ago. The percentage of the Halton population that has been vaccinated has not improved in almost two months. The good news is that no new deaths have been reported in the Halton area. Non-core businesses in Ontario may allow non-vaccinated residents to return, but some businesses still choose to enforce a vaccination proof policy. Mask commands no longer apply to most public spaces in Oakville and throughout Ontario. However, active cases and hospitals in the province have risen more than 25% in the past week. Nearly two years after the city of Oakville declared a COVID-19 emergency, in light of case reduction and improvements in public health, Mayor Rob Burton has officially put an end to that statement. Halton County has revised its website to report COVID-19 data, with far less information being provided on a daily basis as the number of local cases decreases. Regional data no longer indicate the number of COVID-19 recoveries or active cases. ** Vaccine booking: Halton continues to book first and second dose vaccinations for all residents aged five and over, as well as third dose boosters for all adults aged 18 and over. The first, second and third installments for people 12 years and older are available on a nationwide basis. All vaccines approved for use in Canada effectively protect against COVID-19 and all known variants of concern.
