A photo of Christopher Raymond Hartl was released by the RCMP in an effort to find additional witnesses to his shooting on Friday. Rapid homicide by the Integrated Murder Investigation Team (IHIT) and Surrey RCMP led to the arrest and indictment the day after a man was shot and killed. The Surrey RCMP responded to a call from a 48-year-old man who was shot inside a home at 12600-block on 97 Avenue on Friday around 2:27 p.m. The victim, Christopher Raymond Hartl, was rushed to hospital but succumbed to his injuries. “The shooting is believed to be isolated and unrelated to the ongoing gang conflict in Lower Sterea. The information obtained at the scene led investigators to another residence in Surrey,” the RCMP said in a press release. During the investigation, IHIT partnered with the Surrey RCMP, the Integrated Forensic Identification Section (IFIS) and the BC Coroners Service. While the IHIT Investigation Support Unit was coordinating interviews, crime scene investigators searched both scenes and collected evidence. A second-degree murder charge against 40-year-old Darren Ellis Scott was approved by the BC Prosecutor’s Office on Saturday. “We want to thank the immediate action of all our police partners,” said IHIT Sergeant David Lee. “Although there are allegations, we will continue to gather evidence and speak to witnesses.” Police said they were sharing Hartl’s photo in an effort to find additional witnesses. Anyone with information about this incident is kindly requested to contact IHIT at the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at [email protected]
