The Sacramento Police Department said several streets in downtown Sacramento a few blocks from the state Capitol building and the Golden 1 Center where the Kings NBA team plays were closed as police responded to the violence. The condition of the victims was not immediately known, police said. The shooting erupted around 2 a.m. near the corner of 10th and K streets in a popular nightclub, Sacramento Police Chief Kathy Lester told a news conference. Lester said police were in the area and heard the shooting. “We had a large crowd in the area. We do not know if it was part of a club or an event,” Leicester said. He said police responded immediately and began providing medical assistance to the victims. Leicester said six people were fatally shot and another 10 were injured and taken to hospitals. Leicester asked for public help in locating the suspect or suspects involved in the shooting, saying no one was in custody. Voice of the Youth community activist Barry Accius said he arrived at the scene around 2:30 p.m. after a city council member called him about the shooting. “It was just horrible,” Accius told ABC KXTV in Sacramento. “As soon as I went up I saw a chaotic scene, police everywhere, victims with blood all over their bodies, people screaming, people crying, people going, ‘Where is my brother?’ “Mothers who cry and try to determine who their child was.” A roadblock is located one block away from the scene of an apparent mass shooting in Sacramento, California, April 3, 2022.
