The Guerrero state prosecutor’s office, where Acapulco is located, said two gunmen approached and killed two men at a beach restaurant. Police then pursued the perpetrators on the beach, killing one and seriously injuring the other. The video posted on social media shows people running on the beach as shots were heard. Others appeared to be hiding behind tables or chairs. Beach shootings have occurred in the past in Acapulco, which has been plagued by gang violence since 2006. In November, police said gunmen boarded a boat and shot dead a man on a popular beach in Acapulco. The perpetrators then fled by boat. On the Caribbean coast of Mexico, an exchange of gunfire took place on November 4 on a beach in Puerto Morelos, south of Cancun, in which a group of gunmen took part in the killing of two alleged drug traffickers. That daily bloodshed prompted tourists to try to cover two large hotels where local drug gangs were apparently competing for drug sales.
