The alarm concerned two children, one four years old and the other 10 months old, who police believed had been abducted by their father in Fort St. John, BC on Thursday. The 23-year-old mother of the children was also removed from the house against her will, according to police. It was first published in BC. Late Saturday morning, the alarm was extended to the provinces of Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, but was canceled shortly before 4 p.m., Pacific Time. In a press release Saturday afternoon, the BC RCMP said they believed the suspect was heading east, possibly to Ontario. “The BC RCMP shared this information with police in neighboring jurisdictions across the country, who also launched their own search efforts,” police said in a statement. By 3:30 p.m. PT (6:30 p.m. ET) today, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have confirmed that they have located the vehicle and the four men in Kenora, Ontario, just east of Manitoba. “The man was taken to. The mother and her two children are safe and receiving support.” BC Mounties thanked police from other counties for their help and said they would work with OPP to continue the investigation and bring charges in the case. CTV News removed the names of the parties involved in the incident from this story now that the notice has been canceled. Amber Alerts are intended for “only the most serious, time-critical child abduction cases,” according to the BC RCMP. The RCMP says they are not usually issued in cases involving suspected parental abductions, “except in life-threatening cases”. Amber Alerts are issued only when all of the following criteria are met, according to police:
The victim is under 18 years old The police have good reason to believe that the victim has been abducted The police have good reason to believe that the victim is in immediate danger Police have received several descriptive information about the victim, the kidnapper and / or the vehicle involved Police believe the notice can be issued in a timely manner that provides a reasonable expectation that the child may be returned or the kidnapper arrested
