Travelers may mistakenly believe that certain information may improve their chances of being reunited with lost luggage, but Travel and Leisure experts have warned that it could actually put them at risk. They explained: “A secure luggage tag with easy-to-read information can help get lost luggage home. “Whether or not to include an address, however, is debatable, and you may want to avoid putting your home address on your luggage.” Experts from USA Today added, “If you can avoid listing your home address, you’ll be less likely to be the target of a robbery while you’re away.” READ MORE: Travelers must bring ‘towel’ on plane to ‘save space and money’ In addition to your address, experts also advise against placing any indication of your nationality in your suitcase. They said: “When traveling abroad, avoid a luggage tag with a flag or anything that might identify your nationality.” The most secure luggage tags to choose are the ones with a cover. This reduces the risk of your information being scanned by someone close to you. Travel and Leisure recommends including this “on a small piece of paper in addition to the permanent card on your luggage tag.” They added: “If you’re worried about luggage being lost on the return flight, consider listing a work address instead of a home address.” However, a point of contact, such as a phone number or email address, should be sufficient to ensure that it is easily located.
