The 18-year-old went missing on the night of November 20 and was last seen at a bus stop in Plymouth. He was going to travel downtown to meet friends, but he never arrived. Three days later, her body was discovered near Bovisard Beach – about seven miles from her home. Wearing jeans and a gray sweater, Cody Auckland appeared in Plymouth Crown Court on Tuesday morning to file his appeal. The 24-year-old spoke only to confirm his name and date of birth and to admit that he killed the teenager on a date between November 19 and 23. Miss McLeod’s close family members, including her father and brother, sat in the courtroom while friends watched the trial on a video link from an adjoining court.

Her mother, Donna McLeod, was seen in tears throughout the brief hearing. Ackland will be sentenced on May 19 Judge Robert Linford remanded the defendant in custody and listed his case for sentencing on May 19. The judge warned Auckland that he would be sentenced to life in prison, adding: “The only issue will be the minimum term.” Police said there was “no known connection” between Miss McLeod and Auckland and no cause of death had been identified for the teen.
