Brampton Fire Chief Bill Boyes said fire crews encountered thick smoke and flames when they arrived at the scene of the fire at Conestoga Drive and Sutter at about 2 p.m.
The fire with three alarms made it a “difficult entry” for crews on arrival, Boyes said.
“Our hearts are breaking,” Boyes said.
“What happened here today, to lose three children and two adults, with one extra person in a life-threatening situation, is absolutely tragic.”
Two of the children were rushed by paramedics to the hospital in a life-threatening condition and died shortly afterwards, Peel Const police said. Heather Cannon told reporters at the scene. Two adults and a third child were found dead in the house.
Emergency officials did not release the identities of the victims, but Boyes said they believe the children are six, eight and 11 years old. He also said that the two adults who were found dead at the scene are the mother and father of the children.

The fire service did everything it could to save the occupants of the house, the chief said.
“They risked their lives to get into this fire and get these people out,” Boyer said, noting that mental health resources would be made available to firefighters.
“Unfortunately, it was a terrible result.”
An adult managed to get out of the house and was rushed to the injury center in critical condition.
Two other adults were able to leave the house through the basement unharmed, Boyes said.

“My prayers and condolences are with the family and friends affected by this devastating fire at Conestoga Dr in Brampton. We are also grateful for the tireless efforts of our first responders who faced very difficult circumstances,” said the mayor of Brampton. Patrick Brown in a tweet. Monday morning.
Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie also said she was “cracked” when she learned of the fire.
Boyes said firefighters are working to ensure there are no hotspots in the house Monday morning, before an investigation can begin into the cause of the deadly fire.
The investigation will be carried out in collaboration with the Office of the Marshal of the Fire Department, the Peel District Police and the Brampton Fire Investigators, he noted.

Boyes urged the public to follow fire safety procedures.
“If you’re at home, check your smoke alarms. Make sure you have a running carbon monoxide alarm. And make sure your family and friends and everyone you live with know what to do in the event of a fire. How to get out.” , he said.
“We just do not want to see another tragic fire in Brampton or Ontario.”
The Conestoga Drive between Sandalwood Parkway East and Cranmore Court is closed, Peel police said.
