Interviews with swing voters in marginal constituencies found little enthusiasm for either Liz Truss or Rishi Sunak to become the next Conservative leader. This was confirmed by a poll which found that 49 per cent of Tory supporters believed Johnson should remain prime minister – more than the combined support for both Truss and Sunak.
