It was the first fight of Rhodes with the company after his departure in 2016, when he was still impersonating the character Stardust. After leaving the WWE, Rhodes took the independent scene by storm, participated in New Japan Pro Wrestling, Impact Wrestling and Ring of Honor and, most importantly, was one of the founders of All Elite Wrestling. Now he also has the honor of being the company’s first big retiree, returning to his former WWE home. Of course, the fact that he returned to the WWE does not mean that Rhodes abandoned the person he built in recent years. It’s still the American Nightmare and it still uses the same entry theme it did in India and on AEW TV. Now we have to watch to see how Cody is used in WWE programming afterwards – and what are the chances of eventually becoming a WWE or Universal Champion at some point.
