The first recent incident occurred on Thursday when police responded to a green area behind the 100 block of Arbor Meadows Close NW for reports of a teenager being injured. Upon arrival, 16-year-old Jal Acor Jal was pronounced dead. An autopsy-necropsy was performed on Friday and the causes of death have not yet been announced. No arrests have been made as police continue to search for answers. Jal’s family and friends tell CTV News that they are upset after the loss of their beloved friend who attended St. John’s High School. Francis as a student with strong athletic abilities. Family member Susie Jal has now created a GoFundMe page. She says her whole family is in shock and utter frustration and has no words or feelings to explain the pain they are going through. “He was a lively, kind teenager who had many dreams and visions,” Suzy wrote in the description of the page. “He loved his family and friends so much that he did everything he could to make them happy and put the needs of others above his own. “His smile lit up the room as he entered.” Jal was a member of the Calgary Sudanese community, which has suffered acts of violence and death in recent years. Community attorney Gar Gar told CTV News that Jal was a role model in the community, especially for his skills as an athlete. “This is such a big loss for the community when you see kids doing well and then somehow being trapped,” he said. “The community is now on alert because we used to lose children aged 20 or 24, but now we lose children aged 13 to 16. “No family should ever face this and these are children who probably just want to have a better life, they are trying to experience what life is and they can not even understand what their first mistake is.” Meanwhile, local small football teams have expressed their liking on social media posts. “Our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and loved ones, and all those in the community of St. Francis High School. We are shocked and saddened by the news of your tragic loss. ” said Hilltoppers Football in a statement. “Words mean so little in moments like these, but know that our thoughts and prayers are with you in this very sad and difficult time.” Cowboys Football also issued a statement. “When a team suffers, our collective football community suffers side by side,” the statement said. “As we surround the community of St. Francis High School and influence family and friends with our hearts, thoughts and prayers, we also wish you strength from the people closest to you and many beautiful memories to last forever.” Both football teams have asked any young child in need of support to contact the child helpline at 1-800-668-6868 or the Distress Center 24-hour Crisis Line at 403-266-HELP (4357). Meanwhile, the Calgary Catholic School Department said it was also “saddened” to hear of Jal’s death. “Our thoughts and prayers are with their family. “We will have counselors available to support students who may need help during this difficult time,” the board said in a statement Saturday. “We will not comment further out of respect for the family and the community as we mourn the loss of our student.”
