Diane Magas, a lawyer representing Lich, has appealed to the Ontario court over the terms of the guarantee, including restrictions on the use of social media. The Center for Justice for Constitutional Freedoms, which helps with the challenge, says the conditions violate its guarantees of freedom of expression, association and peaceful assembly. The center says banning Lich’s expression on social media, including comments on COVID-19 health measures, lacks a “rational link” with a risk to public safety or further offenses. Lich was arrested on February 17 and initially denied bail, but that decision was overturned on March 7 after a review. He faces charges including harassment and counseling to commit disorder.
