John Cole, who is on trial along with Logan’s mother, Angharad Williamson, and a 14-year-old boy, told Cardiff court that he woke up the night of his death from his partner screaming that her son was dead. Cole said Williamson told him it was a “crazy accident”, but said he did not ask for more details. Defendant said he gave Logan CPR, but then, instead of calling the emergency services, he and Williamson pushed the boy’s body into a bag and took it to the river bank. Cole, 40, Williamson, 30, and a teenager, who could not be identified for legal reasons, deny killing Logan, whose body was found in the river near his home in the village of Sarn in southern Wales on July 31. last year, that he suffered more than 50 injuries. Prosecutors allege all three were involved in Logan’s murder before they came up with a cover-up that included dumping his body in a river and calling police to falsely report his disappearance. At the beginning of the defense case, Cole said that on the night of the boy’s death, Williamson was sitting with Logan in his room trying to calm him down because Logan had “started”. Defendant said he woke up at 2 a.m. on July 31 with Williamson screaming that Logan was dead. He said he entered the room and she told him that he had just heard Logan take his last breath. “I tried to do CPR,” he said. “There was no response. Angarad said: “Stop. “He’s dead.” Cole said he did not know how Logan died. “It just did not make sense.” He said he and Williamson put a top Spider-Man on Logan, who was naked on his chest, and then placed his body in a Nike bag. Asked why they had not called for help, Cole replied: “Shock, panic… I was not thinking clearly. We put the top on him, we put him in the Nike bag and I took out his property. I think Angharad said, “Just get him out of here.” “I just finished walking. I ended up putting Logan on the river bank. I did not put him in the river. ” He said he then heard a noise and turned and saw the 14-year-old boy there. Defendant said he returned to Williamson with the 14-year-old and she asked him to get rid of a pair of Logan dinosaur-patterned pajamas. He claimed that he and the teenager went to some bushes and threw it away. He told the jury he used to push Logan to “burn energy” and admitted that he and Williamson lied to social media about how the boy suffered a burn to his throat. Cole said Logan was running noisily and Williamson put a hot coffee spoon down his throat. Authorities said Logan was mistakenly burned. In the days before he died, Logan was isolated because he had Covid, Cole said, which put pressure on the couple. “Angarad and I were both having a hard time.” Defendant said that the day before Logan’s body was found, he hit him in the arm and cut his back. He claimed Williamson had grabbed him by the cheek as he tried to cut him. Cole claimed that Williamson had also upset Logan when he claimed he saw her kissing his natural father. Cole insisted he had not caused the child to die. He also denied that he once grabbed Williamson by the throat and told her he was in SAS so he knew how to disappear without a trace. The trial continues.
