MP Somerton and Frome, who was stripped of his Tory whip, is being treated for shock and anxiety. It comes after it emerged that his behavior was being investigated by the parliamentary harassment watchdog following allegations of sexual harassment and drug use. The Sunday Times reported that two women had made formal complaints to parliament’s Independent Complaints and Grievance Scheme (ICGS) about Mr Warburton’s conduct, while a third woman had made allegations about his conduct. The newspaper’s allegations are related to sexual misconduct and allegations that he had taken cocaine. Mr Warburton is said to deny any wrongdoing. He reportedly told the Telegraph: “I have a huge defense, but unfortunately the way things work means it does not come out first. “I have not heard anything from the Independent Complaints and Appeals System. I’m sorry, I can not comment anymore. “ A Whips spokesman said in a statement: “David Wahberton’s MP has called for the Conservative Party to be removed while the investigation is under way.” Mr Warburton has been an MP for Somerton and Frome since 2015. The former businessman is the chairman of the pan-party music parliamentary group and has previously been a member of the European Audit Committee. He lives near Somerton, Somerset, with his wife and their two children. The Independent Complaints and Grievance Scheme was created in 2019 after the MeToo movement in Westminster. Anyone working in parliament can contact the helpline for incidents of bullying, harassment or sexual harassment.
