“We’ve probably spent an unhealthy amount of time passionately developing our own terrifying gore technology, which we internally call FLESH,” Dead Island 2 game director David Stenton explained in a chat with IGN. “That’s short for fully eviscerating system for humanoids.” “[This system] allows players to slice, dice, chop, slice, melt, smash and smash zombies in all sorts of spectacular and stylish ways,” he continued. “And it’s all fully procedural as well.” The new trailer shows a strong selection of devastating kills, but Stenton is very excited about the detailed way the FLESH system reproduces the burning flesh. “One of the most fun things you can do in the game is melt a zombie,” he said. “You can see [the flames] burn through clothing and all soft tissue, and under organs and into bones. So, yeah, we put a lot of effort into the core battle and the evil that comes with it.”
