Cressy, who represents the downtown area of ​​Spadina-Fort York, announced Tuesday morning that he has taken over as senior vice president of foreign relations, communications and real estate development at downtown college.
“It’s an emotional day. After almost eight incredible years at City Hall and the Health Council, I’m announcing my resignation today,” Cressy told a news conference at City Hall.
“It is difficult for me to leave the town hall and the health council … I am proud of the work we have been able to achieve in the last eight years.”
Cressi previously announced that he would not run for re-election in the upcoming municipal elections.
Mayor John Tory, who also spoke at the press conference this morning, thanked Cressy for the work he has defended over the years, including leading the city’s mass vaccination program for COVID-19.
“I am only here today to thank him for being a good colleague, for being willing to be the kind of partner during the pandemic that was necessary not only for me… but for the people we have served collectively and together,” he said. Tori.
Cressy’s departure comes as the city sees a resurgence of the virus following the peak of the Omicron wave in January.  Cressy will be attending his last City Council meeting this week and his last Health Council meeting next week.  It is not clear who will replace him as chairman of the health council.
“Thank you for the job you did well in carrying out your responsibilities at the town hall where I suspect … we have not seen his last,” Tori said.
