Peel District Police say police launched an investigation in February when they learned of a series of alleged incidents in which the victims were all people responsible for transporting large cash deposits to and from their workplace in Mississauga.
Police say the investigation, dubbed Project Roscoe, eventually led to the execution of several search warrants across the GTA for a period of one month.
The detained suspects face dozens of charges, including a robbery with a firearm.
“This multi-jurisdictional work is just one example of the outstanding work and perseverance of investigators that sends a strong message that criminal activity will not be tolerated in our communities,” Peel District Deputy Chief of Police Marc Andrews told a news release. “There is no tolerance for offenders stealing from the hardworking members of our community and I want to congratulate all the officers for their exemplary work to keep our communities safe.”
Peel police say the investigation remains “open and ongoing” and that investigators expect further charges to be filed.
Police, meanwhile, are urging members of the public to refrain from transferring large sums of money and to consider making gradual deposits during the day, if necessary.
