Police responded to the scene of the crash near Front and Division Northeast at around 2am on Sunday. Police said two people died at the scene. Four other people living in the homeless camp were taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, two of whom later died, police said. The driver was also taken to hospital, police said. Police have not identified the victims or the driver, nor have they provided information about the circumstances that led to the accident. Officials said Front Street between Union and D Streets and Division Street between Union and Commercial Streets would be closed for several hours as Salem Police Traffic Team investigated the incident. Correction: An earlier version of this post incorrectly reported that two people lost their lives in the crash. Police said two people died at the scene and two others at the hospital.
