Few are left of the 13 mannequins sent to fly down the Downhill Dummy of the Apex Mountain Resort on Saturday afternoon. Apex Mountain Resort GM James Shalman was thrilled to see a large crowd on the hillside to watch “Today is a fun day that always goes so well. Dummy Downhill is such a fun event for us. We probably have 500 people to watch,” he said. “It’s the tallest flying dummy in the world we know, because it leaves our aerial location, no other downhill dummy falls from the aerial location. So these dummies are literally 60 to 70 feet vertical in the air before they crash.” Locals and Apex staff spent hours to days building their own makeshift machines to launch from the edge. “I was probably going to say three or four hours to make my own. Some people spend a lot more, but they put a lot of time and effort into it,” Salman added. This event marks the end of a stable ski season for the local mountain. “It ‘s always fun to do an event on the last weekend of the season. Last year, we could not do it with COVID. We did not want to have an event that brings so many people together so much. back with a very good presence and dear to all. ”
