The head of Tesla has just posted on Twitter some interesting thoughts about what he thinks should happen to Twitter itself, writing … “Freedom of speech is essential for a functioning democracy. Do you believe that Twitter strictly adheres to this? principle;” Freedom of speech is essential for a functioning democracy. Do you think Twitter strictly adheres to this principle? – Elon Musk (@elonmusk) March 25, 2022 @elonmusk His question was accompanied by a poll and the more than 2 million people who took part … just over 70% agreed that Twitter was slippery in the First Amendment. EM followed with another interesting tweet, adding … “The consequences of this poll will be significant. Vote carefully.” 👀 Need a new platform? – Elon Musk (@elonmusk) March 26, 2022 @elonmusk Finally, Elon showed us his (ish) cards, writing that Twitter has become, in general, the de facto public square of modern society … and that if they do not adhere to the principles of freedom of speech, it seriously harms democracy as a whole. Then it raises another interesting question … “Do you need a new platform?” Of course, this may remind people of Donald Trump’s recent attempt to create his own social media space, which he calls Truth Social – and which was recently released. While many right-wing Twitter users have been happy to announce its release, as well as their own new pages, the buzz is … Truth Social has not taken off yet, as some might have hoped. Trump himself is said to have barely made a post there … and some who have been to it say it’s a bit of a digital ghost town, even among some of its most ardent supporters at first. AKA, no one uses it that much !!! Trump does not even use Truth Social. pic.twitter.com/JlFGL2zSUd – Seth Dillon (@SethDillon) March 26, 2022 @SethDillon So, if Elon wants to try his hand at this, he should note it down and try something different. Given his expertise in technology, something tells us that he can be a little more successful.
