Family members of a young woman who was found dead in Kelowna eight months ago are hoping their questions will soon be answered. The body of Austyn Godfrey, 25, was found at the Glenmore Dog Park on the morning of Jan. 16. Shortly after Godfrey was found, Kelowna RCMP confirmed her death “suspicious,” but no arrests have been made. An autopsy has been completed, but the Kelowna RCMP has not released her cause of death. “I just spoke with the investigator and they have no updates at this time. The investigation is ongoing,” RCMP Const. Mike Della-Paolera said. In an email to Castanet, a family friend of the Godfrey’s says those hoping for some answers have been left in the dark. “I am Austyn’s honorary auntie. I am reaching out to you to see if there is anyway you can help us. Sadly we have heard nothing regarding the death of Austyn. Accident or murder we don’t know. All we know is she didn’t get there to that dog park on her own. The lack of movement on the case is causing Michelle to lose hope for justice for Austyn. Her story has seemingly disappeared along with our Austyn,” the email said. Back in March, Michelle Godfrey, Austyn’s mother spoke out. “I pray they find out the truth and justice is served; my daughter didn’t get out there by herself and she didn’t do this to herself either,” she said. “As a mother, I’m asking anyone that knows what honestly happened to my daughter that night, please come forward. I plead with you, please be a decent human being, put yourself in my shoes. Wouldn’t you want the same if it was your daughter or loved one?” Following the discovery of her body, several friends shared a screenshot of a social media post Austyn had made recently. The screenshot included a photo of a man, an image of his car, a phone number and a Snapchat user name. In the post, she said if she doesn’t post to Snapchat in a week, her friends should call the Kelowna RCMP because the man “has probably done something to me.” Police have asked anyone with any information about her death to call 250-470-6236.
