Durham police said in a press release on Friday that they had received a disturbance call at the Iroquois sports complex in Whitby around 10:30 p.m. Monday. According to the police, during the match, a quarrel broke out between two of the players, who are both under 16 years old. Police said that when the two people involved in the fight were coming out of the ice surface, a man approached one of the players and “grabbed and pushed them”. Other people in the area then got involved in the altercation, which spilled over into the parking lot, police said. Kingston’s man, Shawn Melo, now faces two charges, assault and incitement to battle. Police said he was released on bail. The police ask anyone who has information about the incident or has a video from the area, to contact them at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 1832.
