A bystander who recorded video of the fire around 1:30 p.m. he said the freeway was down in one southbound lane, which caused traffic to slow. “You could feel the heat coming off as you drove by, even with the windows up,” the bystander told CHEK News. They said they spotted a fire truck coming up the freeway in the opposite direction, “probably about to turn around at the nearest intersection.” CHEK News reached out to the Nanaimo Fire Department for more details.
