Los Angeles Fire Department units have set up multiple rescue points along the Los Angeles River following reports of a woman and her dog in the water near Sepulveda Dam. The woman was rescued, but crews are still trying to save the dog as she drifted south into the river canal through the San Fernando Valley. He was rescued around 4 pm in shallow water in Studio City. The dramatic scene pushed the lookiloos to come out and see the action from the crossroads. Initially, a Los Angeles Fire Department rescuer came down into the water from a helicopter, but the dog shook from the rescuer’s hands. In the current in Studio City, a man jumped into the water and hugged the dog as they were dragged into the river. He lost his grip on the dog as a LAFD helicopter rescue team pulled him out of the water. The dog did not appear to be in deep water as he walked with the current in a section of a flood channel with high concrete walls. Firefighters said the water was moving at a speed of about 5 to 10 miles per hour. People gathered on bridges over the river as the dog passed by in a caravan. The fire brigade called on the people to stay out of the water. “#LAFD strongly urges all attendees to stay OUT of #lariver as we continue our efforts both on the ground and in the air to rescue the dog,” LAFD wrote on Twitter. “By entering the water (creating) another human rescue that puts everyone in danger … including yourself. Please. Stay. Get out.” It was not immediately clear if the woman and the man were injured. Details of how they ended up in the river were not immediately available.
