BEND, Ore (KTVZ) – A 20-year-old former Bend resident has been arrested on a murder charge in southern Deschutes County on Monday morning for killing a woman by shooting hours earlier on campus at Portland State University in central Portland, his deputies said. Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office has received information that 20-year-old Keenan Harpole, the suspect in a deadly shooting overnight in Portland, Sgt, has been located. said Doug Sullivan. They were told he was on a family property at 5500 block on Homestead Way, between Sunriver and La Pine. “Detectives contacted Harpol and he agreed to surrender,” Sullivan said, adding that he was “arrested without incident.” The suspect was taken back to Portland, where he was released to the Portland Police Department homicide detectives, the office said. Portland police said Harpol would be taken to the Multnomach County Detention Center on a charge of second-degree murder and illegal use of a firearm. Portland police said Central District police were dispatched at 1 a.m. to a reported shooting near Southwest College Street and Sixth Avenue, arriving to find a woman who had died. Police announced later Monday that the victim’s name would be made public after the family was notified and the county medical examiner determined the cause and manner of death. Sullivan said Harpol was a graduate of Mountain View High School in 2020. A PSU sports website reported that he was on the Vikings 2021 roster as a back-runner and wrote football with the Cougars.
