Jonathan Vance was indicted by military police last summer in connection with an investigation into allegations of sexual abuse. Vance actually appeared in an Ottawa court, where he pleaded guilty Wednesday morning. The judge accepted a joint request from both the Crown and the defense and sentenced him to parole, plus a 12-month suspension. His lawyer, Rodney Sellar, read a series of letters of support in court records. Vance, after being convicted, chose not to go to court. The Canadian National Search Service (CFNIS) issued the only indictment against Vance, but gave no details. The CFNIS only said the indictment was related to events that occurred after military police began investigating Vance over an allegation of misconduct on February 4, 2021. District court documents allege that Vance “deliberately” tried to obstruct justice by repeatedly contacting Major Kelly Brennan and trying to persuade her to make false statements to investigators. Brennan, a staff officer at Army Headquarters, told Global News last winter that she and the former defense chief had a close relationship again and again. She then testified before a parliamentary committee, claiming that Vance had had two of her eight children. At the beginning of the dispute, speaking to Global News, he denied any wrongdoing.
