Helen MacNamara, who now works for the Premier League, issued a statement following a leak listing her as one of 20 people fined following a Met investigation. He said: “I’m sorry for the mistake I made. I have accepted and paid the fixed penalty notice. “ MacNamara was fined in connection with a departure party held on June 18, 2020 to mark the departure of a private secretary, Hannah Young, who moved to New York to take up a role at the British Consulate General. He is said to have provided a karaoke machine for the event, which is considered to be one of the noisiest under investigation. Boris Johnson was not present at the event, but former Cabinet Secretary Mark Sandwell and former No. 10 aide Dominic Cummings were reportedly present. Cummings wrote in a blog post defending Young, saying: “It is deeply, deeply contemptuous that not only the Prime Minister but also senior civil servants have allowed such people to attack their reputation to protect the sociopathic narcissist who was hanging out in 10 apartment”. MacNamara left the government in February 2021 and joined the Premier League next May, where she holds the position of head of policy and corporate affairs. Hired from the depths of its experience and contacts at Downing Street 10, MacNamara led the league’s response to a fan review of the governance of football, which last autumn called for the introduction of an independent regulator for game.
