Footage recorded on a cell phone showed a group of about six boys intimidating, kicking and chasing two train crew members at Formby Rail Station.  The British Transport Police said they had received a report of an attack by railway staff at the station at 7.37pm.  on Sunday, April 3rd. 

The beginning of the video shows six people dressed in black, believed to be teenagers, walking towards a station guard and another staff member on the platform. One of the teenagers can be heard saying “get out of our station lad” as they intimidate the men. Railway staff then ran up the stairs away from the criminals and the gang continued to chase them. Childish teenagers were heard laughing and shouting and a girl screaming “My God, they’re kicking it”. Another of the teenagers shouts “do it now” as they run to the entrance of the station. The gang supported the security guard in a corner at the entrance of the station where they tried to kick him again. Both crew members were able to secure themselves behind a locked door. One of the gang members appears to be trying to kick the door as the other teenagers laugh. The video of the attack was shared on social media, with many users pointing to Merseyside police and British Transport Police in the video. British Transport Police Chief David Rams responded to a worried Twitter user to reassure him that an investigation would be launched. Mr Ram said: “This is completely unacceptable and I will make sure that an investigation is launched. He is not a police officer, he is a member of the security. It is still disgusting.” A spokesman for the British Transport Police (BTP) said investigations were ongoing today into the incident. Merseyside police also said BTP launched an investigation with its “support” and confirmed that the people in the video were train staff and not a police officer. A BTP spokesman told ECHO: “The British Transport Police received a report at 7.37pm. on Sunday, April 3 for a raid on Formby train station. “We know the video that shows this incident circulating on social media and the investigations are continuing. “Any witness or anyone who has a video of the incident is kindly requested to contact BTP by sending a message to 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40 stating the number 531 of 3 April. “Officers are conducting increased patrols in the area after the incident.” Andy Heath, CEO of Merseyrail, has moved to reassure the public that this kind of behavior will not be tolerated by the rail service and that it is working closely with the BTP to apprehend those responsible. He said: “We are aware of an incident at Formby Station on Sunday night in which staff were attacked by a group of young people. “While such incidents are extremely rare on our network, I want to reassure the public that such behavior will not be tolerated and we are working closely with the UK Transport Police to identify those involved to ensure they can be held accountable for their actions.” Read more related articles Read more related articles
