Three people were injured in what police said was a single shooting at Rosemont Suburban Mall, sparking a mass emergency response that included heavily armed officers and dozens of law enforcement vehicles. A buyer, Stringer Harris, said he was near the Prada store talking on the phone when he suddenly heard gunshots. Moments later, people started running and the sirens went out. “Once that happened, I did a bit of scanning the room, the mall or whatever to see exactly what was going on who was shot if anyone was shot,” he said. “People were throwing things, they were just running.” Another shopper, Shaheen Ali, was shopping with her son and husband at the time. Shortly before the shooting, her husband went to the bathroom while she and her son entered a store. A few moments later she saw her husband panicked. “All I see is him running and shouting running, there are shots and he’s like a bunch of people, 50 plus people running behind him,” Ali said. “I just grabbed my son and ran.” Following the shooting, a reunion space was created at Murray Bros. Caddyshack Restaurant, 9546 Balmoral Ave., for anyone separated from family members. Those who want to be reunited with their loved ones should head there, police said.
