Burton introduced the next presenter, comedian Nate Bargazte, who took to the stage wearing a black helmet, apparently referring to the slap of Smith and Chris Rock.
“They said comedians should now wear them to awards during their jokes,” Bargazte said. “It does not even cover your face, I think it just focuses on the point where you would hit me.”

Smith announced his resignation in a statement on Friday, saying he “betrayed the Academy’s confidence” in a statement to Fox News Digital. “I have responded immediately to the disciplinary hearing of the Academy and I will fully accept all the consequences for my behavior. My actions at the 94th Academy Awards were shocking, painful and unforgivable. The list of those I have hurt is long and includes Chris “, his family, many of my dear friends and loved ones, everyone in attendance and the global audience at home. I betrayed the Academy’s trust,” Smith said.
