Members also weigh the political cost of summoning such a prominent witness and the prospect of questioning the wife of an incumbent Supreme Court judge over the possibility of not cooperating or providing information. They worry that it could create a confrontation that could distract them from their overall mission.
Judge Thomas and Ginni Thomas declined to answer questions from CNN on Friday.
“No thanks,” Judge Thomas said, wearing a blue button-down shirt and standing in his garage when CNN asked him to speak. Ginny Thomas walked away without comment.
Ginny Thomas came under scrutiny after CNN reported text messages she exchanged with former President Donald Trump’s chief of staff, Mark Meadows, between November 2020 and January 2021.

The 29 text messages between Thomas and Meadows that are known to be in the possession of the committee show that he repeatedly pressured Trump’s top aide to continue fighting for the reversal of the 2020 election.
A spokesman for the commission did not immediately comment to Thomas, but told CNN that the commission did not rule out the possibility of summoning anyone.
