The city announced on Tuesday that the Sakura trees in High Park will be open for viewing next month.
Due to the pandemic, High Park was completely closed to the public during the peak of flowering in 2020 and the cherries were fenced in 2021 based on the public health advice of that time.
“Thanks to the progress we have made in dealing with COVID-19, everyone will be able to go out and enjoy their cherry blossoms when they bloom this spring. “Once flowering begins, I encourage you to rediscover the cherry blossoms in High Park and in cherry blossom locations throughout the city,” Mayor John Tory said in a statement.
The flowers usually last from four to 10 days and the peak of flowering usually occurs in late April or early May.
For those planning to drive in the park, access and parking of vehicles will be restricted indoors during the peak of the bloom to avoid congestion.
Over the past two years, the city has created a Bloom Camera to provide the public with real-time footage of cherry blossoms 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In 2020, the city said the Bloom camera had nearly 125,000 unique views and was watched for more than 36,600 hours.
The Bloom Cam will be open again this year and a link to its show will soon be posted on the city’s social media channels.
You can also see the cherry blossoms in 14 other locations throughout the city this spring.
