Emergency crews were called to Lansdowne Avenue south of Dupont Street at 1:30 p.m. for what was originally referred to as a pedestrian hit.
They arrived to find a woman around 40 in the middle of the road, suffering from multiple injuries.
Her death was confirmed at the scene.
Police at the scene said a TTC vehicle was passing through Lansdowne and struck something that appeared to be a bag in the middle of the road.
His driver turned around and discovered an unconscious woman on the road.
Police said they were working to determine what really caused the woman’s death and how she got on the road.
She is not recognized pending the notification of her closest relatives.
Lansdowne Avenue was closed between Dupont Street and Lappin Avenue for investigation.
