Photo: Save Old Growth Save Old Growth Protesters Block Blacksmith Monument Second Strait Crosses Monday morning (April 4th) in an effort to pressure the government to immediately stop logging old development in BC. Ironworkers Memorial Second Narrows Crossing was blocked on Monday morning (April 4) by protesters who want the provincial government to immediately end all old logging in British Columbia. The bridge was blocked around 8 a.m. by about three Save Old Growth protesters who were sitting in lanes to the south, blocking vehicle access to Vancouver from North Vancouver. In a statement issued by the protesters early Monday morning, Save Old Growth said that following actions in January that closed the Trans-Canada Highway and the Ironworkers Bridge resulting in 54 arrests, “Save Old Growth had stop to give the government time to pass. legislation, however there has been no action or statement from the government and so the motorway closure will be repeated at an escalating rate ”. “In our current course, we are looking at the destruction of our society, the economy and the loss of many, many more lives, right here in BC, over the next 10 to 20 years. “The government has known this for decades and has done nothing to safeguard our future,” said Julia, a spokeswoman for Save the Old Growth, in a statement.
