Paul Hackett, who is also the CEO of ClickandGo, said Daa was concerned about the staffing situation. Mr Hackett said he passed through Dublin Airport last Thursday and there were significant queues. “It was moving but there were significant queues. What we did as a business was to advise every passenger traveling to give extra time and that is what consumers should do.” He said all passengers should give themselves extra time to ensure they can make their flights. He said that those passengers who lose their flights as a result of queues should raise this issue with their airlines, because the passenger has an obligation to reach the gate. However, the airlines are facilitating as much as possible, he said. Speaking to RTÉ’s Morning Ireland, Mr Hackett said he did not think the situation would continue all summer because it was a staffing issue. In addition, more flights are now taking place because the summer program has started, he added. Since the beginning of the year, more than 100 new security officers have been hired. Yesterday, Daa said recruitment, training and security background checks for all staff working at international airports take several weeks. “This has an impact on the time it takes passengers to get through safety, especially during busy hours,” he added.
