The text messages, which were examined by CNN, show Thomas begging Mendous to continue his fight to overturn the election results.
“Help this Great President stand firm, Mark !!! … You are the leader, with him, who supports the constitutional government of America on the precipice. The majority knows Biden and the Left is attempting the biggest robbery in our history.” “wrote Thomas on November 10, 2020.
CNN initially reported that the text messages were in the possession of the committee. The Washington Post was the first to describe their content.
Thomas regularly checked with Meadows to encourage him to promote allegations of voter fraud and to work to prevent election certification. The Meadows answered frequently. On the same day as the previous text, he wrote: “I will remain steadfast. We will fight until there is no more struggle. Our country is too valuable to give up. Thank you for everything you do.”
On November 24, 2020, Meadows vowed not to end the battle on behalf of then-President Donald Trump and challenged his faith as a source of strength.
“This is a fight of good against evil. Evil always looks like a winner until the King of Kings triumphs. Do not get tired of good deeds. The fight goes on. I have bet my career on it. Well, at least time in DC on it “.
Thomas wrote in Meadows on November 19, 2020, “It sounds like Sidney and her team are flooded with scams. Make a plan. Release Kraken and save us from the left that is destroying America.” Lawyer Sidney Powell, who has worked on lawsuits with Trump seeking to challenge the results of the 2020 election, also referred to herself as “The Kraken” in relation to the ancient mythological creature of the sea.
By the end of November, Thomas was increasingly frustrated with the lack of progress in trying to find a way to reverse the results.
On November 24, 2020, he wrote: “I can not see Americans swallowing the obvious fraud. I’m just going on with one more thing without horrific consequences … the whole coup and now this one … from us we can not continue the parody of the GOP. “
The committee has only one text in its possession since January 2021, four days after the Capitol uprising.
Thomas wrote to Meadows that she was angry with then-Vice President Mike Pence for not taking the necessary steps to prevent the results from being certified.
“We live in what looks like the end of America. Most of us are disgusted with the vice president and we are in a state of hearing to see where to fight our teams. Those who attacked the Capitol are not representatives of our large patriotic groups for him. “DJT !! Amazing moments. The end of Freedom”, wrote Thomas.
Clarence Thomas and Ginni Thomas declined to answer questions from CNN on Friday.
“No, thank you,” said Clarence Thomas, dressed in a blue button-down shirt and standing in his garage, when asked by CNN to speak with him. Ginny Thomas walked away without comment.
Ginny Thomas’s messages reflected the belief that the legal challenges posed by a group of conservative lawyers who helped the campaign were valid. He tried to persuade Meadows to leave his allegiance to Powell, who had spent weeks after the election claiming he had mountains of fraud that never materialized.
The content of the text messages may be of interest to the committee’s inquiry, as it requested that Meadows be summoned to provide “both your documents and your testimony concerning these and other matters within the committee’s scope of work”.
The revelation of the text messages between Thomas and Meadows, both of Trump’s two key allies, comes as progressives and some legal experts see her activism as a potential conflict of interest for Thomas’s work in some Supreme Court cases.
Meadows turned thousands of text messages before stopping working with the committee. The texts have been shown to contain a wealth of information about what was happening in the White House in the days leading up to the uprising and what people were thinking about Trump’s trajectory.
The text messages held by the committee are only part of the portfolio of documents that Meadows provided to the committee during the short time it was working on their investigation. They do not necessarily represent the sum of the communication between Thomas and Meadows during this time period.
There is also the possibility that some messages were not delivered due to privilege claims.
Meadows and Thomas have been long-time friends, both of whom have been active for conservative purposes for decades.
While Thomas has been actively involved in politics, she says she took care to distance herself from her husband.
“But we have our own separate careers, and our own ideas and opinions. Clarence does not discuss his work with me and I do not involve him in my work,” he recently told Free Beacon. His work The January 6 selection committee has already appeared before the Supreme Court. In January, the court did not stand in the way of the release of thousands of documents by the White House Trump, despite the fact that the former President sued to keep them secret under executive privilege. The vote on the issue was 8-1, with only Thomas disagreeing.
CNN contacted Meadows’s lawyer for comment. A committee spokesman declined to comment.
