Stelling, 67, announced in October that this would be his last season on the hit Sky show and was due to leave in May at the end of the domestic season. However, the veteran presenter and Hartlepool fan who has worked at Sky for 30 years changed his mind and said on Monday: “Sky Sports is my home and the Soccer Saturday team is a big part of my life. “As the season drew to a close and I was getting ready to say goodbye, I realized I was not ready to blow the final whistle and leave the best job in the world. “I’m excited to be staying and excited to go ahead with the show and create more special Saturday afternoons on Sky Sports.” It puts an end to speculation about who could take on the daunting task of replacing Stelling, and the news was clearly reassuring for Sky’s management, who confirmed that Stelling would remain for the 2022-23 season. Jonathan Licht, CEO of Sky Sports, said: “Football fans everywhere will be delighted that Jeff will continue to host Soccer Saturday. “It’s a huge part of Saturday night’s life and everyone at Sky Sports shares the joy of this news. “We just can’t get enough of Jeff and we look forward to bringing more of his radio magic to our viewers.”
